Two Bay Area ballers, one back injury each, and a mission that turned sidelined into something bigger.
How Junk4Dunks Was Born
Basketball has always been a massive part of our lives. We live and breathe the game. But recently, both of us hit a major roadblock when we dealt with back injuries that kept us off the court. When you love playing as much as we do, being sidelined is tough, and we really miss being active and connected to the game.
Instead of sitting on the sidelines, we wanted to find a way to channel that competitive energy into something meaningful. That's how Junk4Dunks was born. Even though we couldn't play right now, we still wanted to find a way to give back to our community and support the game and youth in the Bay Area.
By turning old, unwanted clutter into real support for the Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation, we found a new way to make an impact — proving that you don't have to be on the hardwood to score a big win for the community.
We take stuff people are going to throw away, keep it out of the trash, and sell it online. Every dollar goes straight to the Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation — Steph Curry's charity that gives kids access to nutrition, education, and sports. Basketball has always been the center of Deepan's world. Growing up in the Bay Area, the game was more than a sport — it was community, identity, and drive. When a back injury forced him off the court, he channeled that same competitive energy into something that could make a real difference for kids who love the game just as much as he does.
Gio has always played with heart. Whether it was pickup games or organized leagues, basketball was his outlet. When a back injury sidelined him at the same time as Deepan, the two found a new way to stay connected to the game — by giving back to the next generation of Bay Area players.
